Patrick Kaplin is a CSA Academy-nominated cinematographer with over 10 years of experience in documentary and narrative film production. His work has been screened at the Montreal World, Vancouver International, Karlovy Vary, Raindance and Toronto International film festivals, as well as broadcast networks such as CBC, PBS, APTN and Canal D.
Patrick was honoured with a CSA Academy nomination for best photography from the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television for his work on the international documentary series, Skindigenous, a show highlighting the activism and art of 13 indigenous tattoo artists fighting to preserve their culture through their practice of traditional tattooing. The series ran for three seasons spanning filming locations across North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Pacific Islands.
Patrick continues to hone his craft as a narrative cinematographer, having lensed two feature films as well as various short-form pieces and performances. He has extensive experience filming in hardship conditions internationally; from the -40C tundra of northern Canada to the remote humidity-laden jungles of Indonesia. His passion for cinematography is evident in each project he’s brought onto. From lighting to framing, every aspect of his work is meticulously crafted.
